Hi, I’m Sara!
Originally from St. Peterburg, FL and raised near Atlanta, GA, I began drawing and painting as a young child and taught myself to sew as a teenager. I earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Textile Design from Georgia State University, with a focus on surface design, natural dyes, and Katazome, a Japanese resist and indigo dye technique. During college, I collaborated with Urban Outfitters to design original garments that were sold nationwide.
After graduating, I moved to Brooklyn, NY, where I helped run The Sketchbook Project and the Brooklyn Art Library—the world's largest collection of sketchbooks. I curated and co-authored The Sketchbook Project World Tour, published by Princeton Architectural Press. Through the project, we traveled the world, connecting artists with museums and sketchbook enthusiasts across the globe. While in New York, I continued creating surface designs and taught Katazome at the Textile Arts Center in Brooklyn. After my time with The Sketchbook Project, I spent eight years working in tech, managing global communities.
In 2020, I returned to St. Pete and welcomed my first child. Motherhood has been a major source of inspiration. Strolling through the historic streets of my neighborhood with my kids, I often find creativity in the natural world around me—imagery that has recently translated into paintings and surface designs.
These days, I divide my time between family, creating art, freelancing, and supporting our family business, Pete’s Bagels. Recently, I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with other small businesses to create unique branding, merchandise, and illustrations for their communities.
I am currently available for freelance work, whether it’s consulting for a growing community, creating new illustrations, patterns, merchandise, or branding assets.
